How Can I Reduce My Risks Of Bleeding Or Bruising From JUVÉDERM®?
Bruising is an expected side effect of any injectable procedure. Here are a few tips to help minimize your bruising risk:
- One week prior to injections avoid the following medications/supplements: aspirin, NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin etc.), St. John’s Wort, Vitamin E, Multivitamins, Krill Oil, Fish Oils, Flaxseed Oils, Omega-3, Gingko, Ginseng, Garlic and Glucosamine. *Consult your primary care physician before discontinuing any normally prescribed medication.
- Eat FRESH pineapple twice a day for two days as it contains bromelain that has been known to decrease bruising. You can also take bromelain supplements 2 weeks prior to injections.
- No alcohol consumption 2 days prior to injections
- Dr. Garcia also recommends taking Arnica Montana for 3-5 days prior to your treatment to reduce the risk of bruising and swelling. We recommend 4 tablets, four times a day.
Do not use Arnica if you have active heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or are taking Coumadin, Lovenox, Heparin, or Xarelto. If you have a medical condition that affects clotting or are on a medication which affects bloods clotting, you must get your primary care doctor’s approval before taking arnica.
