Why Should I Consider BOTOX® Cosmetic?

What Are The Injection-Related Side Effects Of BOTOX®?
Side effects associated with the injection include localized pain, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness and or bleeding/bruising. The mild redness and swelling at the injection site typically lasts for a few minutes. Patients can return immediately to work after treatment.
How Can I Reduce My Risks Of Bleeding Or Bruising After BOTOX®?
Patients may want to avoid taking aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements for one week prior to treatment, consult your primary physician before discontinuing any normally prescribed medications. Dr. Garcia also recommends taking Arnica Montana for three days prior to your treatment to reduce the risk of bruising and swelling. Arnica Montana can be purchased at most health food stores.
Do not use Arnica if you have active heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or are taking Coumadin, Lovenox, Heparin, or xeralto. If you have a medical condition that affects clotting or are on a medication which affects bloods clotting, you must get your primary care doctor’s approval before taking arnica.
How Long Does It Take To See Results From BOTOX® Cosmetic?
Most patients will notice an improvement within 3 – 5 days, but the maximum effect may take up to two weeks.
How Long Do The Results Of BOTOX® Cosmetic Last?
While most patients experience results for three to four months, your own results may vary. Dr. Garcia recommends enhancing your results with proper skin care.
What Is The Difference Between BOTOX® Cosmetic And JUVÉDERM® XC?
Both BOTOX® Cosmetic and JUVÉDERM® XC are ways to treat moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles. Both are non-surgical, but they work differently:
- BOTOX® Cosmetic is typically used to treat “Dynamic Wrinkles”, which are cause by when muscles contract to make facial expressions such as smiles and frowns. Botox is injected beneath the skin’s surface to target the underlying muscle activity which is one of the causes of moderate to severe lines between the brows, forehead and crow’s feet. BOTOX® Cosmetic temporarily reduces the activity of those muscles resulting in improved lines between the brows, forehead and Crow’s feet.
- JUVÉDERM® XC is typically used to treat “Static Wrinkles”, which develop because our skin’s natural substances (such as collagen and hyaluronic acid), which provide structure and volume, decrease over time. Juvederm is injected into the skin to temporarily smooth moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, such as those around the nose and mouth.
