Her rewarding career as an Operating Room Nurse interrupted, Shannon had to stop working soon after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). The steroids she was prescribed to control her disease caused her weight to increase dramatically. "I stopped counting when I reached 205 pounds," she recalls. After years of suffering with excess weight, things changed when Shannon's regular doctor moved out of the area. "My new doctor took me off the steroids and I lost a lot of weight. I got down to 145 pounds." By adding in regular exercise, Shannon lost even more weight and got down to around 138 pounds.
"In my family, the women have a genetic predisposition to the turkey wattle," Lisa begins. "Over time, our necks become wrinkled and saggy, just like a turkey. When I was younger, I promised myself I'd never look like that." After a successful business career, Lisa was able to retire in her 50s. As the years passed, she got off track. "For a while, I let myself go and gained a lot of weight. I finally lost 50 pounds and felt a lot better, but I realized that the changes I dreaded were beginning to happen to my neck," she laments. "I was so upset!"
"It was the right time to do something for me," replies Elise when asked why she chose to have breast augmentation surgery at age 29, after thinking about it for years.
